Mount Hawthorn Granny Flat

 

Well established in their neighbourhood, the clients decided to build a granny flat in their backyard to downsize whilst maximising their land.

 

Although initial sketches proposed a traditional layout, concerns about the impact of the granny flat on the existing house directed the development of courtyards to minimise the bulk of the new dwelling and maximise the Northern aspect.

A “bridge” between the courtyards allows the separation of communal living spaces and private quarters.
